Oracy
Our Oracy vision
At Lane End, we use our voices to learn and to share our ideas. We listen carefully, speak clearly, and respect each other’s opinions. Oracy helps us become confident, thoughtful, and kind communicators - ready for school, work, and life.
Oracy Champions
Miss Turnbull is the Oracy Champion at Lane End Primary and works alongside Mrs Baird to develop and promote high-quality oracy across the school. Through our work with Voice 21, oracy is becoming an important part of everyday teaching and learning at Lane End, helping children to develop the speaking and listening skills they need both in school and beyond.
At Lane End, we believe that every child deserves a voice and that high-quality talk supports learning, confidence and wellbeing. We aim to create classrooms where children feel safe, valued and confident to share their ideas, ask questions and learn from one another. Pupils are encouraged to express themselves clearly, listen respectfully and engage thoughtfully with different opinions and perspectives.
Classrooms across school promote rich discussion, collaborative learning and purposeful talk through activities such as partner discussions, group work, storytelling, presentations and debate. Vocabulary development is also prioritised so that children are equipped with the language they need to communicate effectively and think deeply about their learning.
Through our ongoing development of oracy, we aim to build pupils’ confidence, resilience and independence while preparing them to become active, respectful and successful members of society. We want all children at Lane End to leave primary school able to communicate with clarity, empathy and confidence in a wide range of situations.
