Modern Foreign Languages
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Champion
Miss Turnbull is the MFL Champion for Modern Foreign Languages at Lane End Primary. Having recently taken over the role, she is committed to continuing to develop an engaging and inclusive MFL curriculum which broadens pupils’ understanding of the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking cultures. Through an enriched learning environment, children develop confidence, curiosity and lifelong linguistic skills.
The Lane End MFL curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure progression in speaking, listening, reading and writing from EYFS through to Year 6. Learning themes and topics have been planned to cover all aspects of the National Curriculum while also meeting the needs and interests of our learners. The curriculum is currently under review to ensure it remains realistic, ambitious and effective for all year groups.
Children build on previously taught vocabulary and language structures so that they can communicate with increasing confidence and understanding. Opportunities to practise speaking, perform songs and role plays, read familiar texts and produce written work help pupils to develop as successful young linguists as they move through the school.
At Lane End, we value language learning as an important part of developing cultural awareness and preparing children for life in a diverse and interconnected world. Our aim is to foster curiosity about other languages and cultures while developing the communication skills, resilience and confidence that will support pupils in their future learning and beyond.
Below is the broad overview of our Lane End MFL curriculum, which is currently under review.
