Emotional Literacy at Lane End

Emotional Literacy through PSHE teaching and learning

As well as improving our pupils emotional intelligence and empathy through the use of 'Restorative Practice' we have dedicated lots of teaching time to learning all about physical and mental health.

Every year group from Year 1 - Year 6 will spend a half term devoted to the theme of

Physical health & well-being and/or

Mental health & emotional well-being

These sessions are very well planned and resourced following our You, Me and PSHE curriculum.

Mindmate - Mental Health Lessons

Every half term each year group will also have a session looking specifically at mental health and well-being.

We use the mindmate lessons for this -

Emotional Literacy - Learning all about specific emotions

We want to make sure all our pupils can communicate exactly how they are feeling and identify the specific emotion they are feeling at any given time.

Emotional Literacy - Strategies to deal with strong emotions

We want to make sure all our pupils can cope with their different emotions especially the bubbly and fizzy type emotions such as anger, frustration, jealousy.

Social Stories

All our pupils learn in different ways. We like to use social stories as another tool for exploring and explaining different feeling and emotions.
