Mental Health and Well-being

Mental Health and Well-being

We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Being mentally healthy means that we feel good about ourselves, make and keep positive relationships with others and can feel and manage the full range of emotions.

These can range from happiness, excitement and curiosity through to less comfortable feelings such as anger, fear or sadness.

Good mental health allows us to cope with life's ups and downs, to feel in control of our lives and to ask for help from others when we need support.

At Lane End Primary School we are all about nurturing and developing the whole child. This is not just simply related to academic achievements and progress. Our ethos and vision for all our pupils here at Lane End is to 'learn' 'believe' 'aspire' and 'achieve'. As well as learning how to read, write, become excellent mathematician, historians and future scientists we teach our pupils many other life skills in order to prepare them for the wider world. You can find out more about our 'curriculum' here.

As well as teaching the pupils all about good physical health, diet and about their own bodies growth and development they learn about good mental health too. We actively promote the essential skills of resilience, perseverance, thoughtfulness, independence and collaboration all of which are essential to make them emotionally intelligent, open and honest about their thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Some of the ways we develop these skills, all of which are essential for good mental health include (click on the links in green):

* PE - learning all about keeping active and healthy.

*A thoughtful and engaging PSED curriculum.

* Our unique 'Super Learning Power Framework' - designed and made by us here at Lane End to make it work for our pupils.

* A 'growth mindset' approach when facing challenges.

* A 'restorative practice' approach to teach the pupils its vital to share our thoughts and feelings with others especially when something goes wrong and a relationship is harmed.

There are many more ways we support and develop our pupils mental health and well-being here at Lane End. We prioritise this and the safety of our pupils above all, as without this children cannot thrive and reach their full potential.
