Spring Term in action!

This half term, the children in Hawthorn have their Mathematican hats firmly on, and learning to add and subtract using lots of different resources and strategies. In our daily fluency sessions, we are exploring the composition of numbers. We enjoy using counters and grids to help us stractegically work out number bonds.

Our trip to The Deep!

We had a fantastic day at The Deep! We started off with a workshop to help us understand how important it is to look after our oceans. Then it was time to explore and find out all about the different creatures we can find in and around oceans and rivers! we saw sharks, stingrays, jellyfish and penguins. We even found Nemo! The children behaved so well as always and were a real credit to their parents and our school. Well done Hawthorn!

In preparation for our Key Stage performance, we learnt about how people in Poland and America celebrate Christmas. We have 4 children in our class who are from Poland, so they were our experts!

We painted and decorated flags, learnt new songs and facts from the 2 countries, and enjoyed lots of Polish Christmas carols which Adam's mum kindly e-mailed to us.

Cicha noc, święta noc

Christmas in Hawthorn

In the last week of Autumn Term, we enjoyed lots of festivities; a yummy Christmas dinner (Thank you to our wonderful catering team) a party, Christmas crafts, we had fun in our cosy reading hut. We listened to some funny Christmas stories and drank delicious hot chocolate to warm us up.

Black History Month

We really enjoyed hearing the story 'Lila and the Secret of Rain' and learning about the life and work of Mary Seacole. Stay tuned to hear our poem about Mary!

Lane End Challenges

Here at Lane End, as we ‘learn and believe, aspire and achieve’, we are faced with many new experiences and challenges.

Some of these arrive as special ‘Lane End Challenges’!

Some challenges will help us to be important parts of wider teams and communities.

Some challenges will let us learn about and try new things we might never have done before – and sometimes we will have to be brave to try!

Some challenges will help us to develop new skills that we will need in everyday life.

Some challenges will make us think about our futures, and help us to develop our own hopes, goals and aspirations.

Many challenges will make us use our voices – so that we can share our ideas, and communicate what we know and think.

Look at the links below to find out what we have been up to and what we have successfully completed so far this year.
