We are exploring winter in Spring 1. This topic will be exploring cold countries like the Arctic and Antarctica to learn new animal names, talking about what we notice in weather changes and learning how to wrap up warm for the colder weather.
We've enjoyed exploring ice, using new ideas and problem solving to figure out how to get the poor animals out of the ice. This is helping us build on our early science skills by encouraging children to start making predictions, testing out their ideas and exploring why and how things work.
Our book focus to go with our winter topic is Stick Man which the children were excited to learn after watching the film over the Christmas holidays.
In art, we've kept the blue and white paint out again which we first explored during our Scotland investigation. We'll revisit some key art skills such as tinting to see what children remember and continue helping and encouraging them to explore how colour changes. With the paint, we've been making some lovely winter pictures.
