One of our ongoing themes in Acorns will be to look at the four countries of the UK as each celebrate their patron saint.
Our first stop in our UK tour will be Scotland as St Andrew's Day is on the 30th November this year.
We looked at photographs of Scotland, learning about the Scottish flag and drawing thistles as part of our ongoing observational drawing practise. We listened to Scottish bagpipes and watched traditional Scottish dancing.
Next we are travelling to Wales to learn all about St David's Day which is celebrated on the 1st March. Children found out that daffodils and leeks were two important symbols and explored photographs of Wales. We are excited to see the daffodils we planted in October are starting to flower.
Our third stop is Ireland to explore St Patrick's Day, celebrated on the 17th March. Children enjoyed learning how to Irish dance and enjoyed watching a school in Ireland prepare for their celebrations.
