Phonics is really important for reading and spelling and we are firming up our skills in Year 3. Try to use these activities at least 2 times this week - the more the better!
If you are finding Phase 5 hard, try Phase 3 instead to build your confidence and then come back to Phase 5.
Let us know of any specific sounds you would like more practice on through the year group email and we will focus on those in more depth next week!
Don't forget to send in pictures of your improved scores or you playing the games and we will add you to the Roll of Honour!
This week we are going to look back at all of the sounds we have learned in Phase 5. I would love it if you could use these sounds, along with maybe some of your favourite Phase 5 words, to make a board game that you can play with your family. I have found some blank board game templates that you can use if you like or you can make up your own. For my game I found a board game book from when I was young and added the sounds and words to it. Have a look at the picture showing my example. You can give your game any theme you want and I would love to see photos of you making it and playing it. Maybe you could gain extra points for saying a word with the sound in it or putting the word into a sentence. Will you choose to make a dice or a spinner so you know how many spaces to move?
For our writing challenge this week in Phonics I would like you to choose one of the two pictures to label. Push yourself further by writing a sentence for each of the words. For example, The man in the red tie is pointing at the bright kite. Use the Phase 5 sound mat to help you make sure you are spelling the words correctly.
Some of you do phonics each afternoon with Miss Barnett and Miss Ijaz. If you are one of those children then click on this link for phonics games for you to play at least 2 times a week.
