Phonics

Phonics is really important for reading and spelling and we are firming up our skills in Year 3. Try to use these activities at least 2 times this week - the more the better!

If you are finding Phase 5 hard, try Phase 3 instead to build your confidence and then come back to Phase 5.

Let us know of any specific sounds you would like more practice on through the year group email and we will focus on those in more depth next week!

Don't forget to send in pictures of your improved scores or you playing the games and we will add you to the Roll of Honour!

Phase 5 Sounds Song

If you listen to this each day and say the sounds and words as you see them, you'll soon be able to read all the sounds! Aim for at least twice a week.

Our Sound Family this Week is ai, ay and a-e

Watch the video to recap ai, ay and a-e. These all make up the ai sound family. Look carefully at where the sounds are in the words. remember ai is sometimes at the start but mainly in the middle of words, ay is usually at the end of a word and a-e is usually a middle sound with the e after the last sound, e.g. cake.

For our phonics writing challenge this week I would love you to make an ai sound family garden. Draw or make three flowers with one leaf and 5 petals. One flower is ai, one is ay and one is a-e. See the pictures below of the flowers I have made to help you. There is a template too if you want to use that, but I would love to see you draw some flowers yourself.

Once you have made your ai, ay and a-e flowers then look at the pictures of things below and write the words for them on the correct flower spelling. I have put a video on here too to help you.

Have fun and I look forward to seeing your beautiful flower gardens.

Some of you do phonics each afternoon with Miss Barnett and Miss Ijaz. If you are one of those children then click on this link for phonics games for you to play at least 2 times a week. Check out the new games and challenges on there this week.
