Phonics

Phonics is really important for reading and spelling and we are firming up our skills in Year 3. Try to use these activities at least 2 times this week - the more the better!

If you are finding Phase 5 hard, try Phase 3 instead to build your confidence and then come back to Phase 5.

Let us know of any specific sounds you would like more practice on through the year group email and we will focus on those in more depth next week!

Don't forget to send in pictures of your improved scores or you playing the games and we will add you to the Roll of Honour!

Phase 5 Sounds Song

If you listen to this each day and say the sounds and words as you see them, you'll soon be able to read all the sounds! Aim for at least twice a week.

The week we are learning about split digraphs and magic e.

Here is a video to help with split digraphs (Magic e). Have a watch and practise saying the sounds and reading the words.

Magic e Song.

Dobby's Socks

Here is a video of me showing you how to make and play the game Dobby's Socks. Below are the written instructions and the words you can use to play. Hope you have as much fun as me. I would love to know what you score and if you can improve your score. I would also love to see photos of you playing the game and any new words you can come up with yourselves.

Dobby's Socks Instructions and Split Digraphs (Magic e) Words

Now have a go at writing some sentences using your split diagraph (magic e) words. I would love to see what sentences you can come up with.

Mine are:

  • The cheeky mole dug a hole that went down so deep he found a kangaroo on the phone.
  • The slippery, silver snake shines as he slithers around the bright white cube.
Some of you do phonics each afternoon with Miss Barnett or Miss Ijaz. If you are one of these children then click on this link for phonics games for you to play at least twice a week.
