Phonics
This week we are going to focus on the following 2 sounds. Please look at y for 2 days and zfor 2 days, NOT ON THE SAME DAY.

Z |
Firstly, if you would like to watch a video all about the sound, log into Espresso ( logon details in your home learning pack) and follow the pathway:
Literacy – phonics – scrap’s phonics – click on the letter sound.
Then, if you can, have a go at the blending games on the right hand side of the page that go along with each sound.
Reading activity to go along with 'y'
Have a go at blending the following words:
yet
yak
yes
yap
yuck
REMEMBER - SOUND BUTTONS UNDER EACH LETTER SOUND MIGHT HELP.
For a little challenge have a go at blending these words:
yum-yum
yeti
and one of our high frequency words - you. See if you can take a picture of this with your magic camera and remember it for next time you see it. Keep practicing!
One of the games we like to play in Reception is roll and read. You will need a dice for this. Roll the dice and blend one of the words that is on the number you land on. Can you roll and read all of the words?

Writing activity for z
Today we are going to make a zig- zag book!!!
Fold a paper into a zig zag book. It should look a little like this!
On each page write something that you can do and draw a picture - for example
I can jump
I can sing
I can hop.
Think carefully about finger spaces, listening for all the sounds in the words and full stops.
E-mail us your zig zag books to have a little look at all the wonderful things you can do!
Tricky words
Can you practice writing your tricky words as big as you can then make them smaller, smaller, smaller, smaller. Maybe you could do them outside on chalk so other people can read your tricky words?!
Today practice:
was
my
you
her.
Remember to say them as you are writing them. Read them back after you have written them.
