This week, we will begin with recapping what we have learnt about addition and subtraction. Then we will move onto using inverse to help us to check and solve calculations.
Chilli challenge 1 - Recapping addition and subtraction
We know how to use pictorial methods (draw dienes/base 10 or other pictures), use objects to help us solve calculations. We have also used abstract models such as bar models and part-whole models. Choose a chilli challenge from below, you can even have a go at more than one!
Chilli challenge 2 - Using inverse to check calculations
In Maths, the inverse means the opposite function. For example, addition is the inverse of subtraction and multiplication is the inverse of division multiplication and vice versa.
3 + 7 = 10 10 - 7 = 3
2 x 6 = 12 12 ÷ 6 = 2
We are going to focus on using the inverse to solve and check addition and subtraction problems.
Watch this video that will help you remember what inverse is, and how it can help us become super Mathematicans!
Remember the 4 golden rules!
