# Maths

Each week in your Maths home learning there will be two different types of activities.  There will be a main key objective and a Maths fluency key objective.  The main objective this week is to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers.  The Maths fluency key objective is to know decimal number bonds to 1 and 10.  Remember to keep working on your times tables using Times Tables Rockstars.

There are fraction activities available in the homework section on Education City,  In addition have a look at the fractions activities on the Mathletics website.

Each Friday we will post the answers to the challenges.

KO: To convert improper fractions to mixed numbers

Improper fractions and mixed numbers are both used to represent amounts larger than 1.

An improper fraction is one with its numerator larger than its denominator.

A mixed number contains a whole number (integer) part, and a fractional part.

It is useful to be able to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions in order to make calculations with fractions easier to do.

To change a mixed number to an improper fraction:

1. Multiply the denominator by the whole number.
2. Add on the numerator of the fraction.
3. This number is the numerator of the improper fraction. Write this down.
4. The denominator remains the same.

KO: Know decimal number bonds to 1 and 10

(0.6 + 0.4= , 0.3 + 0.7= 1)

(3.7 + 6.3 = 10, 4.8 + 5.2 = 10)
